If you're constantly saving food reels and hunting for authentic global cuisines, this one's for you.
With social media introducing us to cuisines from around the world, it's easier than ever to find restaurants serving everything from Korean BBQ to Japanese ramen. But every once in a while, you discover a place that isn't just about the food — it's about the experience.
For me, that place is Mise En Place, a hidden Korean-Japanese café in Dhakuria, South Kolkata.

A Café That Brings Back Memories
Back in my college days, I used to take tuition classes in the same building where this little café is located. I had always wanted to visit but never got the chance.
Almost a year later, after office, my school friends and I decided on an impromptu reunion. With no fixed plan, we walked into Mise En Place — and it turned out to be one of those evenings that stay with you.
From the moment we stepped inside, the café felt warm and inviting. With seating for just 10–12 guests, it has an intimate, homely vibe that's hard to find these days.

The interiors are full of charming little details — cute Maneki-neko (Lucky Cat) figurines, shelves of books, authentic Korean and Japanese crockery, and cozy corners that make you want to slow down and enjoy your meal. Whether you're a K-drama fan, an anime lover, or simply appreciate aesthetic cafés, you'll love the ambience.

What We Tried
A refreshing summer cooler with fruity notes that perfectly kick-started our meal.
Soft, flavourful dumplings that make for a comforting starter.
This was undoubtedly the highlight of our meal. Wrapping cabbage, apple slices, chicken, sauces, and condiments together made every bite feel like a fun DIY experience. Fresh, crunchy, juicy, and incredibly satisfying — this dish alone is worth coming back for.
Perfectly cooked meat coated in a delicious sweet and savoury Korean-style sauce.
A rich dessert that beautifully balanced coffee and chocolate flavours without being overly sweet.
